Digital Responsibility

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง For Everyone

What you share online has real-world consequences

India has 750 million internet users. Fake news, online harassment, and irresponsible social media behaviour have cost real lives and destroyed communities.

๐Ÿ” What You Share Online

โœ… DO

Verify news before sharing โ€” check at least 2 credible sources

Why: Fake news spreads 6x faster than real news. Sharing without checking makes you responsible for the harm.

Credit original creators when sharing their work

Why: Removing credits from photos or videos is intellectual theft.

Think before posting โ€” would you say this to someone's face?

Why: The distance of a screen does not reduce the impact of words on a real person.

Report fake news and abusive content to platform moderation

Why: Reporting takes 10 seconds. Not reporting keeps harmful content up for thousands more to see.

โŒ DON'T

Don't forward messages without checking their source

Why: WhatsApp forwards have caused mob lynchings and communal riots in India.

Don't share personal information of others without their consent

Why: Sharing someone's address or phone without consent is illegal and dangerous.

Don't use social media to bully, harass, or humiliate others

Why: Cyberbullying leads to depression and suicide. The law treats it seriously.

Don't spread religious or communal hatred online

Why: Section 153A of IPC criminalises promotion of enmity between religious groups.

๐Ÿ“– Real Life Example

"In 2018, a WhatsApp message falsely claimed strangers were kidnapping children in Maharashtra. A mob killed three innocent travellers. Nobody verified the message before sharing it. This is what unverified forwards do."

Remember

"Every message you forward has your name on it. Share responsibly."
