Noise Pollution

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง For Everyone

Your noise affects others. Silence is a public right.

India is one of the noisiest countries in the world. Noise above 65 dB causes stress, hearing loss, and cardiovascular disease. A car horn hits 100 dB. Festival loudspeakers hit 120 dB.

๐Ÿ“ข Everyday Noise Rules

โœ… DO

Keep TV, music, and phone volumes low after 10 PM

Why: People sleep. Sick people, elderly, and children are especially affected.

Use earphones for personal entertainment in public spaces

Why: Your music taste is yours alone. Others in the bus did not choose it.

Talk at a moderate volume in hospitals, libraries, and places of worship

Why: These spaces require low noise for their purpose.

Inform neighbours before loud events and keep it within permitted hours

Why: A heads-up and a time limit make loud events bearable for everyone.

โŒ DON'T

Don't use pressure horns on vehicles โ€” they are banned in India

Why: Pressure horns exceed safe noise limits and are illegal.

Don't play loudspeakers at full volume near schools and hospitals at night

Why: Supreme Court guidelines limit loudspeaker use. Violations harm patients and students.

Don't burst crackers near animals, hospitals, or late at night

Why: Animals have highly sensitive hearing. Loud crackers cause terror and lasting trauma in them.

Don't honk continuously in traffic jams

Why: Multiple studies confirm continuous honking moves traffic not one metre faster โ€” but raises stress enormously.

๐Ÿ“– Real Life Example

"A Bangalore family played music till 1 AM during a festival week. Their elderly neighbour suffered a stress-induced heart episode. One simple request would have prevented all of it."

Remember

"Your freedom to make noise ends where another person's peace begins."
